What this calculator shows
A subnet calculator converts CIDR notation into the network boundaries operators need for firewall rules, routing, allowlists and architecture reviews. IPv4 results include broadcast address, netmask and usable host range. IPv6 results show the network prefix and address space without pretending that broadcast semantics apply.
Why CIDR matters in security
Security controls frequently operate on ranges rather than single addresses. A mistaken prefix can allow or block millions of addresses, so calculating the exact network before enforcement is safer than visual guessing.
